Just Like That by Marsha Qualey

Internet is up and running again, so, today's book is Just Like That by Marsha Qualey! The description of this book is:

Things change so suddenly. one day Hanna has a long-term boyfriend; the next, she realizes she doesn't have strong feelings for him and breaks up with him. one day Hanna trusts her two best friends completely; the next, all of that trust is toppled. And then Hanna finds herself the bearer of a major secret: she was the last person to see two teenagers before they died in an accident on the icy lake. she can't tell anyone, so when Hanna finds herself drawn to will, the elusive boy she's noticed around town, the kind of boy who'd increase any girl's pulse, she doesn't hold back. what she learns about him will astonish her. but what she learns about herself—her friendships, her family, her life—will affect her far more.

So, to me, this book sounded really cool. The book ended up being okay, but kind of disappointing at the same time. It started out like a normal book, but after that, it kind of just got weird. I still liked it enough to where I still recommend it, but only if you're an avid reader and like to read lots of books. This book might not be the best for someone who's looking for a GREAT book. I did like Hanna's character, and Will's. I was disappointed when I found out Will's secret, because it makes the beginning of their relationship all weird. Anyway, this book was overall good and had a cool story line but it wasn't the best either. Read it if you're interested, it's still a cool story. Hope you guys enjoy :)

  1. This book sounds good, but I don't know if I'll read it. I'm reading This Lullaby at the moment by Sarah Dessen, and I was wondering what you thought of the book. Merry Christmas!

  3. Bella,
I loved This Lullaby. When I first read it, I thought it wasn't as good as some of her other books, but now that I've read it again, I really love it. What I like about Sarah's books is that they always teach you something. Her books always have some aspect that's really important. Plus, I loved Dexter! I mean who wouldn't want some cute guy to stumble into them and say one of the sweetest things ever and in his own corky way? How do you like it so far?

    Double Trouble,
Glad you liked it! At the time, it was just what I needed too: A distraction from my world! :)

  4. I actually really like it now! Remy's really pissed at Dexter for supposedly "flirting" with the A&R lady. I love that her books teach a good lesson too! In such a nice way. One thing for me though, is getting into her books can be difficult. Not this one obviously because some weird guy bumps into her and declares love in the first chapter. Oh and also I found this quiz on a site called Sarah-land.com. Here's the link http://sarah-land.ning.com/. Sorry if it won't just transfer you there by clicking it. If it leads you to a box that says to enter your password enter: lullaby. and then hit at the bottom of the screen Sarah-land community and on the front page is a quiz to see which Sarah Dessen character you are. Thought it was cool so hope you enjoy! Next I think I'll start The Truth About Forever. I hear its sooo good!

  6. Bella,
Some of my friends have that same problem with Sarah's books, so I know what you mean. Also, thanks for sending me that link! I think I've taken that quiz before though. I got Colie from Keeping the Moon. Glad to hear you're moving onto The Truth About Forever. I'm such a geek that I have a favorite page in that book. It's 136. So when you get there, I hope you like it :) haha

  7. Hi Tricia,

Well this has nothing to do with any of the book reviews, but I thought since you're a college student and all, that maybe you could give me some advice.

I like this guy. A lot. And he just so happens to be my best friend's brother. The really hard part is over thank goodness, which of course is telling my best friend how I feel. She totally understood and we laugh about it a lot. But the problem now is how do I act around him? I know to be myself and I am, but I get so nervous and tingly feeling when I know I'm gonna be around him. And then I just tell myself to let go of everything I'm feeling and then it's like we're really friends. Which draws another problem, we're 12, so he's still in that stage where he thinks girls have cooties only not quite that immature. So I wanna be friends, but I'm afraid of being too friendly as in he might think I like him too much. I have no idea what to do because I don't wanna be too friendly, but I wanna be comfortable and not nervous all the time. And maybe if we get close enough when we're older, to maybe have a real relationship. And if we ever do, what if we breakup and it's so awkward when I see him at my best friend's house?
Please help me Tricia! SOS A.S.A.P!

  8. Leah,

Since I don't know the situation first hand, I don't know how much I can help, but I'll try my best. I know how you feel with the whole liking your best friend's brother thing. My best friend has a cousin that I've had a huge crush on forever. It's good that your friend understands the situation, that always makes it easier. You seem like you mostly have the situation under control, but need some reassurance. You're already doing the right thing by telling yourself to relax around him. One thing I've learned is that if something is meant to happen, it will. If being friends right now is what feels right, then stick with it. Always trust your instinct on those things. Boys aren't too complicated. While us girls are thinking things like, "Crap! What if he thinks that means I like him! What if he thinks I'm obsessed with him or something?!" he probably didn't even notice what we were freaking out about in the first place. So, what I'm trying to say is, he's not going to think you like him too much. Since you guys are 12, he's probably totally oblivious to most things around him that aren't video games, food or sports. So again, RELAX be yourself like you said and see what happens. And if you do get together when you're older and break up, all you have to do is not let it bother you while you're there. If you really don't feel like seeing him, suggest your friend comes over to your house or you guys go out for the night. Things wont be as horrible as you think. I hope I've helped a little bit!

  9. Thank you Tricia!

I really appreciate your response. And you know, I think you're right. A few days ago well Christmas, he apparently got a cell phone and my friend said, "Oh we should totally prank text him as someone else and then after you guys have each others phone numbers, you'll text each other!" and I was like no way 'cause I'll defitinitely have to text him first after the prank text, and then he might think that i wanna talk to him all the time and then it might make things awkward. But she said he wouldn't care a bit so I guess I'll see how things work out. And you're defitinely right, if things are meant to be, then it'll happen. Right now I can only day dream and hope for a miracle. I don't know if you've heard the song "I'd Lie" by Taylor Swift, but it's a really cool song and someone on youtube.com made a video with all of these sayings and one is "I really wish you'd pay more attention to my favorite songs because the lyrics are everything I'm too afraid to say out loud". I didn't know the world could be so ironic. Everything about puberty really stinks right now, but there are a lot of things I really like about it.
    Thank you so much!

  10. Leah,

You're welcome! If you and your best friend's brother are friends, I don't see why he would think anything of you texting him. I have heard I'd Lie before. It's a really great song. Gotta love Taylor :) Hope things work out for you!
