Once Was Lost by Sara Zarr

Today's book is Once Was Lost by Sara Zarr! The description of this book is:
Samara Taylor used to believe in miracles. She used to believe in a lot of things. As a pastor's kid, it's hard not to buy in to the idea of the perfect family, a loving God, and amazing grace. But lately, Sam has a lot of reason to doubt. Her mother lands in rehab after a DUI and her father seems more interested in his congregation than his family. When a young girl in her small town is kidnapped, the local tragedy overlaps with Sam's personal one, and the already-worn thread of faith holding her together begins to unravel.

This book first drew me in with its cover. I know, that's not what you're supposed to do with books, but I couldn't help it. The cover is pretty, and I like pretty covers. Anyway, after I read the description, I thought it would be a cool book to check out. When I first started it, I wasn't getting into it, but after the first chapter or two, it got my attention. I was really wondering if Jody was ever going to get found, and when I started getting close to the end of the book, I got worried we weren't going to find out. No worries, you get all you need in the ending chapters of this book! It was an overall pretty good book, I'd say. The whole idea of being the pastor's daughter was cool to me. I've never read a book like that before. It's not really an uplifting book until the end though. If this one sounds interesting to you, give it a try! Hope you guys enjoy :]

PS: Sorry for the delay in posts again! Busy college life + finals + Christmas = not a whole lot of posts! But, I did read a lot of books, so stay tuned! :]

  1. I love pretty covers too! A lot of the time I'm intrigued just by the cover. This seems like a good book, maybe I'll check it out. Happy holidays!

P.S. What did you think of Along For the Ride by Sarah Dessen?

  2. Yes, same here. Pretty covers are my weakness, haha. Well, other than books themselves. Anyway, I LOVED Along for the Ride by Sarah Dessen. I mean, I love anything by that amazing woman, but I digress. I thought it was a really cool story, and her writing style is very good. I wish I could have some of the adventures Auden has in that book. Even if I already know how to ride a bike, to be able to do all that fun stuff with a cute boy? Hello, sign me up! Especially the food fight. Doesn't everyone want to be in one of those?
When I went to NC to meet Sarah, she gave me a t-shirt because I drove 8 hours to see her and I was so excited because first of all, Sarah Dessen had just given me a t-shirt, and secondly, because it was all about the Colby Beach Bash. It had Colby Beach Bash 2009 on the front, and on the back it had a bunch of places Auden and Eli went throughout the book, like: Gas/Gro, The Washroom, Clementines, The Bike Shop, etc. Needless to say, it's currently my favorite shirt.
What did you think about the book?

  3. Lol, that is SOO cool! I would love to do that! I'm almost done with Along for the ride, I'm to the part where she's learning to actually ride a bike. But so far it's been really good. I felt really bad for Heidi though.
I would love to have a food fight. It sounds messy and my type of fight because I can't even win an arm wrestling match with my cousins. Who, by the way are still in middle school and below. I can't wait to finish it and I'll let you know my final outlook on the book.
What's your favorite book by Sarah Dessen?

  4. I know! I felt so bad for Heidi too! I really wanted to punch Auden's dad in the face lol. My favorite book by Sarah is The Truth About Forever. That book changed my life and it's just such a good story. Plus, I love Wes. The real world needs boys like him. Everyone gets annoyed with how much I talk about The Truth About Forever. Really, I think everyone should read it. Such a good message. What's your favorite by Sarah?

I'm glad Just Listen had a great affect on you! It's one of my favorites as well. It's the first book of Sarah's I ever read. You're right, she is amazing and I know what you mean about wanting the book to never end. That's always the case for me when I read an awesome book!
