Susane Colasanti Blog Tour! Win a signed copy of So Much Closer

Hey everyone! I am so honored to be a part of Susane Colasanti's 2011 blog tour for So Much Closer. Today Susane stopped by for her last guest blog of the tour. Hope you enjoy! :)

Here is a description of So Much Closer, and a trailer!

Scott Abrams is the love of Brooke’s life. He just doesn’t know it yet. So when his family moves to New York City the summer before senior year, Brooke has no choice but to follow Scott. It’s her last chance to prove to him that they’re meant to be together.
But the city is full of surprises that Brooke never expected. Ever since a painful family trauma, she’s been closed off to her parents, to her friends, and even to herself. Now, inspired by the thrilling energy of the bustling and creative city around her, Brooke starts to explore her talents and become someone she never dreamed she’d be.
So what will she do when her biggest dream finally comes true . . . and instead, she wants something more?

Welcome, Susane!

Greetings, friendly neighbors! I’m stoked to share some of the inspiration for my fifth book, So Much Closer.

Realistic fiction is my thing. I like incorporating details inspired by my own experiences to make my books feel as realistic as possible. So Much Closer takes place in my neighborhood, the West Village. I had lots of fun including my fave New York City places and things in this book. For my blog tour, we thought it would be fun to share some of them with you. So here we go!

10. Look up

This last one isn’t a place or a thing, more of a philosophy. In So Much Closer, John encourages Brooke to look up. There are so many amazing things we miss because we don’t look up enough. Whenever I’m walking down the street with my friends, they’re always like, “Dude! That was Jon Stewart!” But I never see Jon. Okay, I saw him once – it took every bit of strength I could muster to not run after him. But I usually don’t see him or anyone else because I don’t look around enough. It’s freaking tragic.

When you look up in New York City, you discover this whole other level of awesome. Rooftop gardens, sick penthouse apartments you can see right into, gorgeous architecture – it’s all here, awaiting your adoration. But the Look Up philosophy is about more than just physically looking up. It’s about choosing to have a positive outlook. It’s about welcoming positive energy into your life. So wherever you are and wherever you go, please remember to look up.

Thank you so much, Susane! Congrats on your fifth, AMAZING book!

  1. Mine is probably, "Chill out." Just when someone gets really stressed out or angry at someone to relax and just think things over briefly. Take a deep breath in, etc. Works for me. :)

  2. My philosophy is probably, "Do it." It's simple, but it always works when I'm hesitant (fearful) about something that could turn out to have amazing rewards if I just take that 1st step! Great post:)

  3. mine would be "SLOW DOWN." people need to take time to enjoy what they love and what they haven't taken the time to enjoy. Life may seem long but every year to me seems to feel shorter and shorter because I go full speed ahead. So remember to slow down and live a little.

  4. My philosophy is “Too much pesto”. It comes from an episode of Top Chef where, after a lengthy critique, the contestant summarized the criticism by distilling it down to its essence and repeating it for the judges. He showed the judges that he had heard what they were saying, but did so in a way that wasn’t defensive and didn’t compromise his own opinions. I thought it was a great way to take constructive criticism without feeling humiliated or contentious.

  5. Mine would probably be "Get Real" because I always feel that I have to remind myself that I'm not superman, I can't please everyone and everything isn't always going to go exactly as planned. I guess you could call me somewhat of a perfectionist. If things don't work out exactly the way they are supposed to I immediately blame myself and get myself all upset over something as small as missing a grounder that's hit to me in a game. I always let things fester, and by telling myself to "Get Real" I prove to myself that I'm perfect the way I am, that it will all blow over eventually, and that life is full of second chances. "Get Real" is a way of telling myself to face reality and realize that no one's perfect.

  6. Mine is

Be the work big or small.
Do it well or not at all.

It doesn't matter what your job is you are just to do it the best you can or find something else to do. I learned that young and always lived it. Jessy

  10. So Much Closer is Colasanti's fifth novel and her own personal ode to the city that never sleeps.
This is a story about a girl who pinned all of her hopes on a boy and has to figure out what to do when that boy might not be the right one. It's a story about New York City. It's a story about finding out that the things you want aren't always the best for you.
